I recently read the book Captivating: Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman's Soul by John and Staci Eldredge. In this book, John and Stasi speak of the three deepest desires of a woman's heart and teach that these desires are innate desires placed there by God. These desires tell us of the life God created us to live and are a reflection of God Himself. One of those three desires, which I want to talk about today, is the desire to 'Unveil Beauty.'
Think back for a moment to when you were a little girl. Did you ever play dress up or try on your mom's makeup? Did you ever cover your room in art or pick flowers to adorn the table? Now, fast forward to your life today. Do you ever ask how do I look? Hoping for the response to be 'You look beautiful.' Do you ever buy a bouquet to place on your kitchen table or a piece of art to dress up the white walls in your home? These desires to look beautiful or create a beautiful space are not random. They are inherent to being a woman, a woman created by God.
Now, think about God and they the ways that He unveils beauty. Look at creation - the sunset, the gift of new life, the blossoming flowers of spring. God, just like us, desires to unveil His beauty. He uses beauty to reveal Himself, to invite us closer to Him, and to inspire and comfort us. Being made in God's image, it's no wonder that we have this desire too!
The quote in the image above is one that I love from Captivating because every woman having been created by God is truly beautiful. As a society, we tend to crown other women beautiful based solely on their outward appearance. But, beauty is deeper then this. Beauty dwells in every woman, and she shares this beauty with the world in many different ways. Her warm smile, kind word, or gentle touch. Her work of art, tended garden, or melodic voice. Her inviting home, delicious meal, or helping hand. Her love for her children, husband, and friends. These are all reflections of her beauty, but even more deeply, of God's beauty.
Take a moment to think of all the truly beautiful women in your life. The one's that reflect a supreme beauty, a beauty that touches your very soul and draws you closer to God. Be sure to tell these women they're beautiful. We all need to be reminded of our beauty and to be encouraged to share this beauty with others so that we can reflect the beautiful God who created us.
Now, think about how you unveil God's beauty and what speaks of God's beauty to you. For me, as I said in this post, I see and enjoy reflecting beauty through fashion. Fashion, to me, serves as an outward reflection of our inward selves. It helps radiate our beautifully unique personalities - personalities that were created by and are a reflection of God.
Fashion is one of my favorite reflections of beauty, but for you, it may be something completely different. For just as many women there are in the world, there are that many unique ways to unveil beauty. Be sure to open your eyes to it, recognize it, and share it because it is all around us, but most importantly, beauty dwells in the very essence of you.
You are truly beautiful. Don't ever forget it.Labels: Beauty, Captivating, God, John and Stasi Eldredge, Life, lifestyle, Women
