Work Wednesday: 3 rules for looking chic at work

If you work in a corporate environment, it can be challenging to dress for work. Finding a balance between dressing fashionably and professionally is not always easy. Here's exactly what I do to take this look (and others) from just a lifeless, corporate outfit to a stylishly, chic ensemble:

  1. Stick to neutrals: Neutrals paired together are incredibly chic in my opinion. Prints can be too trendy and distracting in the work environment.
  2. Add a third piece: I actually talked about the third piece in this post, where I shared that adding a third piece is the best fashion advice of all time! Why wouldn't we want to apply this same advice to our professional attire?! Think of the third piece as the icing on top. You have your top and bottoms (piece one and two) so your third piece is whatever you add in addition to those. In this case, I added a scarf, but it could have been a button down under my sweater, a vest over it, or a statement necklace.
  3. Accessorize: Remember rule number #1 - stick to neutrals for your clothes, no prints that draw attention to your look. Instead use accessories to differentiate your otherwise bland attire. Add a fashionable necklace, a great pair of shoes, or a third piece! Use your accessories to let your true style come through (as long as it's still tasteful, of course).

I'd love to know, how do you balance dressing fashionably and professionally in the work environment?
